Has Anyone Else Experienced This?

No new picture for me today -- I spent my crafting time this morning making my card for Thursday's challenge at Sketches! by Tamara! Be sure to stop by on Thursday to see my wintery card with the stamp I won over at Country Blessings!

Last night as I was listening to my Cowboys duke it out with the Eagles (I just also have to mention that we won, by the way, in the last few minutes of the game - 41-37!! It was close! We don't have cable, so I was listening on the radio.), my lab/basset, Lucy, had a seizure. It is her second one. Our little beagle also had seizures (3 of them) after we moved to this house. It just seems weird to me! We have had dogs our whole life and I had never even heard of that. Then we move here four years ago and the dogs had a combined total of five seizures. Is that common? Has anyone else experienced this? My new little puppy (my beagle had cancer and we put her to sleep in July) is seizure-free so far. I don't know if it's a breed thing, or something in the house, or what. Any thoughts? We took her outside and just held her until she stopped shaking and then she wanted a drink! In ten minutes all is back to normal.

Since I don't have a new project to share yet, I would like to draw your attention to an awesome blog and Teapot Tuesday over at my friend, Cindy's "This is My Story." You simply HAVE to check out her teapot creations. I have wanted to play in her Tuesday challenges for almost three months now, since she started, and I haven't been able to yet! Cindy {aka Mothermark} is so creative, and you will LOVE her stories and cards. Be sure to tell her I sent you! Go now!!

  1. I'm sorry to hear about your pups! It's awful when we don't know what's wrong. I'll keep you and your little ones in my thoughts.

  3. Sorry to read about the dogs - it must be a bit worrying. I never came across anything like that with any of ours. Hard to imagine that it would be the house. I'd be inclined to check with a vet given it's happened more than once.

  4. When my dog started having seizures, I took him to the vet. They said he was suffering from heart failure and was also not getting enough oxygen when he did things like go upstairs or got exciting in greeting his kids. He was treated with medication. He was an old pup, so his problems came with age. Hope you can get them some help. My daughter also has a pug and he suffers seizures. The vets told her it can be part of the breed personality that makes them more prone to them. He has had them for 4 or 5 years...just one or two a year and seems to be fine otherwise.
It is scarey to say the least. Hugs to you and your doggies.

  7. I am so sorry to hear about your dogs having seizures. That is odd. I wonder too, if there isn't something connected with the house? Have you run that by your vet to see what he/she thinks? I hope that if there is a reason other than it being breed related that you are able to figure out it soon so your puppies can get better.

Can't wait to see your card on Thursday! Have a great week!

  9. Yes, my dog has them, too, she is a GoldenDoodle, about he size of a smaller golden retreiver. She shakes, and her front legs twist in and she scares the heck out of me. She is a young dog, 3 this year. We took her to the vet after the fist one, she has had about 10 in the 3 years, he said it is common for dogs to have them, and to write down the date, length of the seizure, that way he can tell how often she is having them, There is meds for them, but because she is a young dog he did not want to put her on them unless he had to as over time it can harm the liver and shortens the dogs life span, so that is why he wants us to moniter it, if it comes more often and they last longer, then we will have no choice but to go to that. Its a scarey thing, and she had one recently worse then the others...but thank God, she does not have them often! I think you should talk with your own vet and see waht he says, for a peace of mind if nothing else! Good luck!

  10. When your baby goes into a seizure, it can scare the spit right out of you. I had a Llasa who had seizure that became to bad we had to put her down. Broke my heart.

We also had a lab that had seizures...when they were over he wanted water and rest - but the final one he had in the vet's office and was so agressive when it was over that he was trying to kill the picture of a cat on the wall then turned on the vet. Needless to say, we didn't get to bring him.

These are our babies even if they have fur and we do all we can for them.

  11. I'm so sorry to hear about your pups siezures. I wish I had an answer for you. My SIL had a cocker spaniel that had seizures - her vet said it was due to the high stress personality of the breed. I hope you're able to get some answers, I can't imagine how stressful it is for you.

I love Cindy's teapot cards! I haven't had a chance to play in her challenge yet either, but totally admire her work!

    big hugs, Jami

  12. I just found your blog for the first time today. I saw a link to it from another blog. We had a dog who had seizures too. He started it about 7 years old, and had 1 or 2 a year until he died at 14 years old this spring.

I really like your blog and will be back again!

I just started my blog this week after spending a year reading everyone elses for hours and hours:-)

  13. My first Bouvier de Flandres started having seizures when he was 18months old. He was diagnosed with epilepsy and was put on meds which were initially effective but he needed stronger and stronger doses. This was 20 years ago and I'm sure advances have been made since then.
I do hope that your dogs are OK - we do worry about them, just as we do our children.

  14. The last comment, or first comment at the bottom is correct. Your dog probable has epilepsy. It is not all that uncommon with dogs as it is with humans. You should go to the vet. Unless they are a secondary symptom of something else, medication these days is amazing. May or may not need them for the rest of its life, but is nothing to worry about. It is like having high blood pressure or anything else, where sometimes a chronic condition is just that. But meds can keep them under control if you find the right ones, and your dog can live an amazing life respectively. Good luck!
