WHAT A SALE!!! Don't Miss It!
Just in time for Labor Day, Hambo Stamps is having a SALE! For 36 hours we'll discount every regularly-priced stamp on our website by 30% -- though if you're quick, you can receive 35% off your order! How do you qualify for the extra discount? Be the FIRST person from your state to place an order! That means up to 50 people will receive the extra discount. This is big, because it includes all of our best-sellers and the stamps never before sold at a discount.
Here are the particulars:
The discount applies only to orders placed between 12:01pm (EST) on Sunday, August 31 to 12:01am (EST) Tuesday, September 2. (In other words, from noon on Sunday, to midnight Monday.)
States will be counted based on shipping addresses. Once an order has been received that will ship to a state, that state will be removed from the list, and everyone else from that state to order will receive the 30% discount. You MUST provide the shipping address with your order, or you could lose the extra discount in the time it takes for me to email back and ask for the address. When I email back with the payment details, I'll tell you which discount you'll receive.
International customers will receive the 30% discount as well.
There is a limit of one of each design per customer.
The discount applies only to in-stock items, with no back-orders available.
The free shipping offer does NOT apply during this sale event.
Because things tend to get very busy when we have big sales like this, it might take slightly longer than usual for me to get back to you with your payment details. Your patience is appreciated!
____________
The above announcement comes straight from Monica at Hambo Stamps, so please e-mail her at info@hambostamps.com for information and to answer questions.
Be sure to check out the site HERE. What a GREAT sale!

Stamping Friends are Awesome!
Because my in-laws are now coming this afternoon, I am in the process of making and then baking a Raspberry Peach Pie, so my stamping is on hold for a day!
But I did want to share a couple of sites with you.
Maybe you already know about this one: SUColorQ
If not, check it out! It is a really fun, fast, easy way to put colors together (including the new In Colors!) and find out what combinations you might like.
One that I really liked that I played around with today is
Riding Hood Red, Summer Sun, Always Artichoke and Sahara Sand. Sounds like something out of my comfort zone, but I think I will like the results!
The other site is an awesome sketch site: Sketches! {by Tamara}. I have been asked to be a designer for Tamara's sketches and I am really excited about that! I think that for me, at least, thinking up the sketch or layout is the hardest part, and most time consuming, in designing my cards. Each week Tamara sends the Design Team a sketch and it is posted on the Sketches! blog on Thursdays. September 4th is coming up quickly and I hope you will join in the challenge!
Thanks for stopping by -- I am off to finish the pie!
(A poet and I don't know it..... ok, maybe I will just stick to music and stamping......)

Can I Even Find My Colored Pencils?

See a card I made with the dove from this set HERE.
I used this SCS sketch for my layout: I have also recently re-discovered how much fun Magic Mesh is to use, so I added that as an embellishment and tied some Fancy Fibers over the top layer of the card. The background papers from Provo Craft brought out both colors in my main image. A little torn edge here and there, and some sponged clouds in the background - and it was done! Don't think it was a fast process! My long-time readers know I make cards very slowly. I think I enjoy the process more than the finished product sometimes!
Tomorrow I host the SCS Limited Supplies Challenge, so I hope you will come on over there to play, and then come back here to see what I made!
If you have some time, check out THIS website, VANILLA JOY. It has some awesome giveaways with great prizes this week!
Stamps: Peace on Earth by Our Daily Bread Designs
Paper: DCWV textured cardstock, Provo Craft Slab DP, Whisper White
Ink: Palette Noir Black, Always Artichoke
Accessories: Magic Mesh, Fancy Fibers (retired SU!), hand-cut cloud stencil, sponge dauber, colored pencils (SU!), brads (The Paper Studio), distressing tool

Yummy Yummy Yummy I Got Love in My Tummy!
First of all I need to clarify the black and white picture. For those that didn't see the post 2 days ago, there is a color version that I posted first. The black and white was just a fun close-up! So take a peek farther down and you will see the color version I did for Monday!
I am off to work, but wanted to post one of my favorite fall dessert recipes for you to try. We love plums and nectarines in our family, and this dessert is a yummy combination of both!
Plum and Nectarine Torte
2 nectarines, cut into small wedges (approx. 12)
2 plums, cut into small wedges (approx. 8-10)
1/4 C. sugar
1/4 tsp. cinnamon (I use Pampered Chef's - it's the best!)
1/4 tsp. almond extract
1 refrigerated pie crust
1 large egg white, beaten
2 tsp. turbinado sugar (substitute granulated if you don't have turbinado)
1. Heat oven to 425. You will need a 15 x 11 inch rimmed pan lined with foil or parchment paper (I used Pampered Chef's stoneware and parchment paper).
2. Combine fruit, sugar, cinnamon and almond extract until evenly coated.
3. Unroll pie crust onto lined baking pan. Place fruit mixture in the middle, leaving a 1 1/2-2" border around the edges. Fold edges of the pie crust over the filling, pleating and pressing dough together to hold its shape.
4. Brush crust edges with egg white; sprinkle with sugar. Bake 15 minutes. Reduce oven to 375 degrees and bake 20 more minutes or until crust is brown and fruit is tender. Cool 10 minutes. Slide onto a cooling rack to cool completely.
5. Serve with ice cream or Cool Whip!
I plan to make this today after work, so come back tonight or tomorrow and see what it looks like!! Yummo!!

Wow! Black and White....... and then Rose Red all over!
Well, yesterday I told you I would post a close up of my House Mouse card. And as I was taking the picture, I was fooling around with some settings and ended up taking this black and white photo. And guess what? I love it! It's true that we make our projects with varied colors in mind, but I thought this photo perfectly captured the beautiful art work on this stamp so well. It made me really look at the image in a new way, instead of focusing just on the colors (which I also love!).
What is funny about that is that today is Color Challenge 181 at SCS! So I did make a card with colors in mind (Kraft, Rose Red, Basic Black), and have it here:

But in any case, here it is. Charlie is stamped in Palette Noir Black and colored with Stampin' Up! markers. The flowers are stamped twice and popped up on a tiny piece of Stampin' Dimensionals. The chipboard is sponged with Palette Noir Black ink. The Canvas background was inked with Creamy Caramel and then thumped with Rose Red in a few places.
Stamps: Canvas, Clear Dollar Stamps |
Paper: Kraft, Very Vanilla, Basic Black, Rose Red, Purely Pomegranate, Rose Red POP DP |
Ink: Palette Noir Black, Rose Red, Pretty in Pink, Creamy Caramel, Close to Cocoa |
Accessories: chipboard by The Paper Studio, designer label punch, eyelets, photo corner punch |
Thanks for stopping by! Tomorrow I will have one of my favorite dessert recipes that uses some yummy fall fruits!

Maybe I Should Have Expedited?
I had been a Guest Designer for both Hambo Stamps and Our Daily Bread Designs, and this month I was asked by both companies to take a spot on their regular Design Teams! I can't tell you how thrilled and excited and honored I am. The image styles are so different from each other that it keeps me on my toes! Be sure to check out their websites for some great images! The Design Teams are listed in my sidebar, and I am thrilled to be working along side such talented and creative women! Kelley at Our Daily Bread Designs is also now carrying the Scor-Pal! I am so excited about that, and have been working on a couple of things with that to show you later this week.
Be sure to check back tomorrow to see the card I designed for the House Mouse and Friends blog challenge!
No card today, as I am in the process of working on several projects, but I do want to share a delightful picture with you. My daughter got a new camera this past month, as she is a photographer for her school yearbook and newspaper. And as some of you know from previous blog posts, she has quite an eye for artsy pictures. Here is one of my favorites from this past week. She likes to take what she calls "alley walks" and finds all sorts of cool stuff that I probably wouldn't even notice! So enjoy this bit of art, and I hope to see you tomorrow!

Funny How Things Change
My card for today puts some of those opinions to task! I love acrylics and how you can see right where you are stamping. Rub-ons come in such a variety of colors and designs now, how could you not want to use them on cards, glass, ribbon..... and unmounted stamps sure take up a lot less room than wood mounted! As for the supplies..... well, let's just say that I used to remember every single thing in my stamp room..... and the other day after I came home from Hobby Lobby to get Glue Dots, found a drawer full of pop dots, Glue Dots, foam tape and Dimensionals......
not to mention the drawer full of eyelets, ribbon, chipboard, clips, flowers, and gems. We won't talk about the six drawers of designer paper.......
But today I am excited because I got my Clip It Up last week and I plan to unpack it and see how much I can put on there! Watch for pictures this weekend!
My card today uses one of my favorite techniques: Polished Stone. I love all the different looks you can get, depending on the colors and the way you apply those colors. Today's Polished Stone background uses Old Olive, Encore Gold and Purely Pomegranate. After I made the background, I applied this beautiful silhouette rub-on from American Crafts. I stamped the sentiment (Stamp Oasis/Rubbernecker) in Always Artichoke on Pink Pirouette cardstock, and then tore the edges to meet the challenge today on SCS: Ways To Use It - Torn Paper. The edges were sponged in Always Artichoke and Pink Pirouette (a new In Color for this year).
Thanks for stopping by! I appreciate your comments and suggestions on any projects, and also on anything you would like to see on my blog!
Stamps: sentiment: Stamp Oasis by Rubbernecker

Survival Tactics and a New Baby

The sentiment is stamped in Chocolate Chip ink. The little brad buttons are a cute addition for a baby card, although I do wish I had spaced them father apart. The large jumbo eyelet says "adore."
If you would like to play along, check out the link above for details and more samples from the rest of the team!
I am happy to announce that I survived my first Monday of teaching! You would think I am used to it by now, as this is my 27th year of teaching! I do love summer vacation, though, and it's always hard to go back to paying for everything I bought during the summer!
I am also having trouble getting the Random Number Generator to load properly in my laptop, so check back tomorrow morning for the blog candy winner and also for a fun new card with the SCS Color Challenge!

My Kind of Day

What a beautiful day we had here yesterday. It was one of those that my daughter and I love. Cooler temperatures, a little misty, and soft rain throughout the day. The kind where you just want to curl up and read a good book (which she did - from start to finish!) - or stamp (which I did!).
I made this card for the SCS Inspiration Challenge. We had a marvelous table setting to inspire us. I love the bold colors.

I used Papertrey's Birds of a Feather set, and two new In Colors: Pacific Point and Riding Hood Red. I stamped the flower is RRR and Old Olive and then brushed them with a wet brush to smear the ink a bit. The bird is stamped twice and raised on Stampin' Dimensionals. I thought about adding some glitter to the flower middles. What do you think?

Paper: Riding Hood Red, Pacific point, Whisper White, K & Co. DP |

08-08-08
I would rather carry an address book and remember more useful and important information - like how to get to the airport and back without making 2 extra turns.......know what I mean? My husband comes back from England this weekend and I will drive the three hours to pick him up. Hopefully I will remember how to get there the SHORT way. haha
I do remember how to get to the Michael's there......hmmmm.....
In any case, I love that today is 08-08-08. Happy Eights Day!!
Back to school on Monday! My posts here will probably be in the evenings now on days that I work, so if you don't see something new, keep checking back! Next week brings new releases and designs for the companies I am designing for this month: Hambo Stamps and Our Daily Bread Designs.... and next week brings BLOG CANDY!
I am also excited to announce that I will be hostessing the Limited Supplies Challenge at SCS in a rotation with five other great hostesses: dawnmercedes; jeanne s; stagccva; stampinsilvia; and wendybell! My first challenge will be August 29. I hope you all will play along! Dawn had a great challenge today: ATC cards (small cards) that could be used as Lunch Notes!
I made this little card:

Paper: Basic Grey Circus Stripe DP, Cosmo Cricket Wanted DP, Mellow Moss, Whisper White, DCWV Textured Brown
Ink: Black Stazon, Chocolate Chip, Creamy Caramel, Blush Blossom, Copic C-1 (which leaked on my horse!)
Accessories: star eyelet, linen thread, circle punches, Bitty Brads by CTMH, Fiskars decorative scissors, Magic Mesh, sponge dauber

Pearls of Thanks
Our Daily Bread Designs will be releasing some really neat sets on August 15, and I will be showing those this next week. But today I wanted to use the wonderful Give Thanks set that is a must-have for fall and Thanksgiving cards.
I stamped the sentiment and cornucopia in Chocolate Chip ink. I used ink pads and an aqua brush to color in the cornucopia and then distressed the edges, sponging Chocolate Chip ink on as I went. I sewed the Basic Grey Mellow DP to the DCWV textured brown paper and then added my piece of Chocolate Chip satin ribbon. I layered this piece using Stampin' Dimensionals to the Mellow Moss base.

Today's SCS Ways To Use It Challenge was Be-jeweled! I used pearls in the upper left-hand corner of my card to give it a shabby chic look. The pearls were the last thing I added to the card.
Stamps: Give Thanks by Our Daily Bread Designs
Paper: Mellow Moss, Whisper White, DCWV Textured Neutrals, Basic Grey Mellow DP
Ink: Choclate Chip & many various for watercoloring
Accessories: pearls, sewing machine, Cutter Tool, Chocolate Chip satin ribbon, sponge dauber
Techniques: sponging, watercoloring

Out With the Old and In With the New
The SCS Color Challenge this week was to use any of the retiring In Colors. I chose colors that would work with my cute new images. I used River Rock, Wild Wasabi and Purely Pomegranate for my cardstock, and the ribbon also picks up Groovy Guava. I will miss these colors!
Inkadinkadoo has a lot of cute sentiments that are quotes from young kids. I liked this one! My picture is a little blurry - my DH has my camera in England, so I am using DD's - which I don't know how to use!
Stamps: Sentiment by Inkadinkadoo, Alligator and Leaf by CTMH (Life is a Jungle)
Paper: River Rock, Wild Wasabi, Purely Pomegranate, Whisper White, Wild Wasabi POP DP
Ink: Black Stazon, Wild Wasabi, River Rock
Accessories: slot punch, ribbon by Fancy Pants Designs, green brads by The Paper Studio, Nestabilities
Techniques: watercolor
And here is the Sneak Peek I promised of a cute new set:
Isn't it darling? It's the new camping set that is in the new Stampin' Up! catalog! I am still waiting (and not very patiently) for mine to arrive. Something to look forward to next week, probably, as I start back to school and teaching (like I will have time then to peruse and drool and look all day....haha!)
Have a great day!
