Painting With Cardboard

I am always looking for fun techniques to add to my cards. There are so many ways to created interesting backgrounds using other mediums. Today I am using cardboard (toilet paper tube) and paint! You could also use lengths of empty wrapping paper tubes.

You may have done this with your kids to paint fireworks in the summer, or flowers in the spring. I am using this for bursts of love in February!
First of all I chose my sweet image from Sweet n' Sassy Stamps' Valentine Critters Stamp & Die Bundle. I stamped on Georgia Pacific White cardstock with VersaFine Onyx Black ink and embossed with WOW! Clear Detail Embossing Powder. I colored him with Copics and then cut him out using my Big Shot. Next I cut my toilet paper tube into strips about an inch and a half deep.

I chose my paint colors to match tones in the image coloring. I used inexpensive acrylic paint for my two-tone background, painting large circles to "stamp" my cardboard in. I started with the lighter color, pink, and then used the same tube for the red.

The key here is to have a light touch when you pounce on your paper. Sometimes I would have too much force, and then I got a few blobs of paint.

Pounce as many times as you like to get the look you want. I wanted a more open look, so kept my pouncing to 3-4 times.

I made a couple of sheets and will save the other pieces for another project later. I did find, on my second sheet, that the look is different depending on the color you begin with. I started with the red the second time, and put pink on top. Just experiment and see what you like! These photos are from the first sheet.

Finally, I added some patterned paper from Authentique, lace, and stamped the sentiment when the paint was dry. I popped my bunny up using Stampin' Up Dimensionals. I think he turned out pretty cute, don't you? In front of a burst of love!

Good News of Christmas

One week to Christmas! That means today is the 4th Sunday in Advent  - and the waiting is almost over. Today I am sharing a card using products from Stamp Simply, with a quote from Martin Luther:

I tend to make very few red and green Christmas cards, because I love pink so much. While the pink candle would have been last week in the Advent wreath, pink is the liturgical color for joy. I also find it interesting that pink is the color in the academic world that represents an advanced degree in music (and I have the honor of having that in  Choral Conducting!). Music, joy, glad tidings!

I embossed the Floral Cluster in White Embossing Powder and lightly blended a light pink ink over the top. I embossed a second, and blended a darker pink ink, then cut out just the flower. Two sprigs were cut from the Gold Cardstock (I know they look green, but really are gold!). I layered it all on my card base, which had a lightly blended partial Lace Stencil for the background with the sentiment stamped in black. A strip of silver glitter cardstock and sequins were added here and there for sparkle.

I love how it turned out. You can see more about this project, and the products I used on the Stamp Simply Blog today!

Freshly Made Sketches #566

It's Wednesday and time for a new sketch from Freshly Made Sketches! The very talented Narelle is our hostess for this challenge, which is our last of 2022. So you have three weeks to play!

I absolutely love this Winter Floral stencil from Simon Says Stamp. I used several Distress Oxide inks for color. The circle frames were cut with Memory Box Stitched Circle Dies. I had some tiny trees left over from a project a week ago on my desk, and added them inside the top circle. The SSS Christmas Foliage is cut from gold, green and pink cardstocks to match the stencil colors. The sentiment is from Picket Fence Studios.
I hope you will join our sketch challenge, and add your creations to our gallery! I would love to see what you make! And there is lots of time to play!

This challenge will end at 3:00 EST time on Monday, January 2. Be sure to take a peek at the gorgeous cards my teammates have created on the FMS blog to inspire you! There are some beautiful designs there!

Christmas Joy Shaker

How can December be almost half over? Pretty crazy, if you ask me! But it must be Christmastime because I'm making Christmas cards (not something I do year 'round!). Today's share is a festive and fun shaker card for someone that loves pink! I went a little overboard on the shaker bits, but IRL it is a super cool look - just hard to photograph!

I cut a circle frame and used it as a circle stencil for my light aqua ink. I stamped and embossed the ornaments with embossing glitter, and added the bow hanger using VersaFine Clair Nocturne. I stamped the Merry Christmas from Farmhouse Christmas in the same ink. I made a shaker using foam tape and acetate for the window.

Thanks for stopping by! Stamp Simply is having a storewide sale through 12/25 with free gifts! Be sure to check it out!

Freshly Made Sketches #564

It's Wednesday and time for a new sketch from Freshly Made Sketches! Cécile is our hostess today. I LOVE everything she makes. If you have never visited her blog, you simply must.

I love these stitched snowflakes from Stampin' Up! and they were still on my desk from last week's sketch! So -- another snowflake card from me this week. I decided to go for some crazier bold colors.  My sentiment die is from IO Stamps. I made a DOX watercolor background using the acetate method from Jen Shurkus and my favorite PINKS.

I hope you will join our sketch challenge, and add your creations to our gallery! I would love to see what you make!

Christmas Peace

Happy First Sunday in Advent!

This past week the team at Stamp Simply has been sharing quick and easy Christmas cards to replicate for mass production. Today I am sharing one that is both of those things, but also very elegant and classy.

I stamped the poinsettia with Oasis Green Ink on Forest Green Cardstock. I cut the Fishtail banner from Gold cardstock and the Peace Word Die from Forest Green. I used liquid glue to adhere my word die. I matted my stamped panel with Gold cardstock and popped the layers up with foam tape.

Tone on tone color always looks beautiful, and when you add a touch of shimmery gold, it becomes instantly classy. On top of that, the gorgeous Peace Word Die is elegant all its own. I hope your Advent season is filled with peace!

I love the stitched snowflakes from Stampin' Up in pale pink! My sentiment is from IO Stamps and is cut from silver shimmer metallic cardstock. I have teeny tiny gems on the snowflake centers. The cute winter background paper is from Stampin' Up!

Christmas Joy

I know you all must be feeling the same way I am: Wasn't it just Halloween like yesterday? Is it really Thanksgiving next week? And because of all that, something happened yesterday that has never happened to me before: I listened to Christmas music BEFORE Thanksgiving for about half an hour haha! Then I came to my senses. :D

But, that won't keep me from sharing a Christmas card I made this week using products from Stamp Simply!

I started with some very light kraft cardstock for my background, and stenciled using Festive Berries DOX. On the kraft, it came out a bit more pink than red, but as pink is my favorite, I'm not complaining! Using a darker kraft, I stamped my ornaments and embossed them with gold, then cut out with the matching dies. The cute bow ornament hangers are so easy to line up with my MISTI. I stamped the JOY right on the stenciled background and embossed that as well.

Using Gathered Twigs DOX, I sponged around the edges of the panel, and also in some places in the middle, then embossed the edges with gold. My favorite metallic thread (in gold this time) and a couple of pearls finished off the front panel. I mounted on a beautiful metallic gold (looks yellow, but is really a shimmery gold) and then on the card base of brick red with a lovely shimmery metallic copper. It's different, but I like it!

With Gratitude

We have had such a beautiful, long fall this year. I loved the variety of colors on the trees and bushes. And then we had a windy day and now we have a carpet of tons of leaves! They look kind of like the background on my card today. I used products available at Stamp Simply.

Using various DOX inks I made a smooshed ink background. When dry, I embossed with the 3D Acorns EF, using a sandwich to create a more subtle background. I tied gold metallic string around the panel. I embossed the With Gratitude sentiment from Falling Leaves with Gold EP and popped up the sentiment panel using foam tape. I added three rhinestones for bling.

Gift Presentations with a Handmade Touch

Happy Sunday! This week at Stamp Simply we have been sharing gift items and presentations that are easy to put together -- and that have a wonderful handmade aspect as well. I am sharing some handmade soaps and a cute tag made with products from Stamp Simply.

I started by cutting my tag shapes and stenciling with the Flourish stencil (links below) using Vintage Photo DOX. The sentiment was stamped in the corner with Tuxedo Black. I combined several DOX inks and smooshed my watercolor paper into the spritzed inks. When dry, they were stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black Ink and then cut out with the coordinating die. My favorite burlap string holds the bag closed, as well as adorns the tag with a bow.

I made an extra tag for another little giftie! You can see more about these products (and an amazing project by Sharon too!) on the Stamp Simply Blog today!

Happy 12th Anniversary to my son and daughter-in-law!

Freshly Made Sketches #559

It's Wednesday and time for a new sketch from Freshly Made Sketches! The incredibly talented and sweet Jen T is our amazing hostess today with an inspiring sketch! Somehow I am always more inspired by circles on a sketch than flat sides. What about you? I didn't exactly use all the circles, but my three elements are there.... in three words!

I used one of my Turnabout sets from Concord and 9th (first time using one ha - I am always incredibly late to the party) and four DOX colors: Barn Door, Spiced Marmalade, Fossilized Amber, and Bundled Sage. I stamped my sentiment from The Greetery in VersaFine Clair Nocturne, and added oodles of little latte colored pearls form my stash. I used two shades of Soft Suede papers and tied it off with some May Arts Natural Jute (I love that stuff so much I have a 400 yard spool of it!).

I hope you will join our sketch challenge, and add your creations to our gallery! I would love to see what you make!

This challenge will end at 3:00 EDT time on Monday, October 31. Be sure to take a peek at the gorgeous cards my teammates have created on the FMS blog to inspire you! There are some beautiful designs there!

Christmas Peace

Happy Sunday to you! This past week at Stamp Simply we have been sharing Christmas designs. When I made this earlier this week, it was cooler, and I could imagine the snowy trees. Today it was 88! Pretty crazy for the end of October, but next week I will be able to imagine the cooler temps again, as it will be in the 50's.

I decided to use my Peace Word Die as the sentiment, and paired it with the new to me Tim Holtz Treeline Die.

I made a painted design using acrylic paints and my brayer on white cardstock. When dry, I cut the Tree Line die from this cardstock piece. I found one of the designs from the Craft Consortium Ocean pad for my background, and adhered a piece of printed vellum to it using vellum tape. I then glued the trees to this front panel, and tied it with gold metallic thread. I cut the Peace Word Die from Gold Metallic cardstock, and adhered it with liquid glue. Sequins added some sparkle. The entire panel was adhered to the navy card base.

It really ended up being very elegant and artsy, and I am happy with how it turned out! You can see more about this card and the products used on the Stamp Simply Blog. Thanks for stopping by!

So Very Blessed

Happy Middle of October! The leaves and weather are changing and it's the perfect time to share a fall card using products available at Stamp Simply!

I made a background with Paper Artsy Infusions and plastic wrap (scrunching up the  plastic wrap in a clockwise fashion and letting it dry, then removing the plastic wrap). The sentiment was stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black ink. I backed this with one of the checks from the Graphic 45 Farmhouse 8x8 pad. I stamped my leaves in Tuxedo Black, and used watercolor paints to color them loosely. I cut a large banner shape to "ground" the leaves, and tied burlap string around the panels, then adhered to the kraft base.

Graphic 45 paper pads are 30% off through today! There are some gorgeous pads, so check it out HERE.

Freshly Made Sketches #557

It's Wednesday and time for a new sketch from Freshly Made Sketches! It is my pleasure to host with week with a couple of squares :)

I have had this fence die from PTI for awhile and have wanted to use it for a sketch, so it became my large panel. I used a leaf embossing folder to add texture to the background.  The little bird was die cut (TH Sizzix) from a watercolored panel I had played with in browns and blues and never knew what to do with -- until today! A little grass and word die in contrasting greens, and this little guy is ready to fly!

I hope you will join our sketch challenge, and add your creations to our gallery! I would love to see what you make!

Freshly Made Sketches #556

It's Wednesday and time for a new sketch from Freshly Made Sketches! Amy is our hostess this week, with a fun classic sketch.

Starting with the 3D embossing folder from Crafter's Companion, I then used one of my TH floral dies, available from Stamp Simply. Oh my goodness - while I love the look, there is such a learning curve to figuring out where the pieces go and not take three hours to do it! I added a vellum piece to follow the sketch. My sentiment is from The Greetery. I added some rhinestones from my stash for sparkle.

I hope you will join our sketch challenge, and add your creations to our gallery! I would love to see what you make!

This challenge will end at 3:00 EDT time on Monday, October 10. Be sure to take a peek at the gorgeous cards my teammates have created on the FMS blog to inspire you! There are some beautiful designs there!

I colored my poppies with alcohol markers and cut the flowers and coffee cup with the dies listed below - both popped up with foam tape. I cut the Coffee Die out of light aqua cardstock and glued it to the watercolor paper. I tied blue metallic thread around the watercolor panel before adhering it to poppy colored cardstock.
