Freshly Made Sketches #470

Hello everyone! We have a new sketch at Freshly Made Sketches, and my sweet friend to the north, Jen B, is our hostess this week!

For this week's sketch, I started with a background that I made using Nuvo Shimmer powders (Atlantis Burst and Green Parade). I adore these powders because of the shine and sparkle. Out of my box of leftovers and unfinished elements, I pulled this Hello Word Die from Simon Says Stamp that didn't cut all the way through (for a previous project), and decided to use it just as it was. I stacked two together for more dimension. I added a sentiment strip from Taylored Expressions on top. I had some stars cut from Ice Silver cardstock (CutCardStock) that I used for the corner elements of the sketch. I did some old school piercing along the top edge.

Always Have Hope

White can make such a statement with a little pop of color or a touch of sparkle. I love the clean look, and the ease of working with a bright white. My favorite is Neenah Classic Crest Solar White Cardstock (110 lb). Today's project uses the Solar White and also the MirriSparkle Gold Glitter Cardstock.

This came together very easily in just a very few steps. Take a look:

Embossing folders can be a great way to add quick elegance to a background. A couple of dies, and that beautiful added sparkle or pop of color and you've got one easy, but eye-catching card!

It's Wedding Season!

I usually give a gift card to wherever the couple is registered for a wedding gift, so I love to make the wedding card that holds that gift. Today I am using stamps from Rubber Stamp Tapestry -- one block sentiment and three tiny peg stamps to create the floral sprays. The peg stamps are about the size of my little fingernail or smaller, and I love creating different designs each time I use them. 

You can see in the photos above some of the steps, and my practice sheet for stamping. I used various inks from my collection, and stamped on Classic Crest Solar White Cardstock. My card is a horizontal standard A2 size. Everything is held together with Scor-Tape.

I cut an oval for my wedding "wreath." The first stamping step was the block LOVE, and then I added little flowers and leaves in a rather haphazardly planned way to create the floral sprays. For embellishment, I added ruffled ribbon from Really Reasonable Ribbon for a wedding garter look, and some pearls throughout the spray and around the "O", because they are elegant, and also my favorite! Can you find them all? There are 13!

I love being able to personalize each wedding card with the couple's colors, or something special just for them. It's much nicer than a store bought card - or a cheap gift card holder from Target!

I'll Always Have Your Back

You may have read about the major flooding in my state - Nebraska has more miles of waterways than any other state, and they all are flooded. While we sustained minor damage, so many others have lost everything. So it's a good time to let people know how you will help them should something happen.

Today I want to share the details of my card I posted earlier this week using the Freshly Made Sketches Sketch #379! It's a sweet sentiment for a friend – or a close relative – using the adorable Rhino Bird Day stamp set and matching dies from Trinity Stamps. To start, I made a grassy savanna using Shabby Shutters and Twisted Citron Distress inks. I stamped my images with VersaFine Clair Nocturne, and when dry, colored with Copic markers. I used Basis White from CutCardStock for my main panel. The matching dies make it so easy to cut out!

I popped up the watercolor panel with foam tape, and then also popped up the birds and rhino. I added two little clouds with silver linings to complete the scene. The sentiment was also stamped in Nocturne. I love what it says — it’s nice to have someone like that, isn’t it?
